Delhi Data Sprint + Visuals from River Luni + Lectures + Classroom Events + Data Visualisation and more!
Introduction
March is filled with a lot of activities for us, and the team is looking forward to spending time along some rivers, conducting a data sprint in Delhi, in classrooms speaking with young minds, delivering lectures, processing internship applications and more.
Before we dive into details, a quick note:
Veditum’s team members will be in Delhi in the middle portion of March 2024, organising events, talks, etcetera, and we’d like to catch up with like minded folks while we’re there. If you’d like to meet with us or get updates about our Delhi plans, email us at asid@veditum.org and we’ll share details!
So let’s get into it!
Moving Upstream Project
Moving Upstream Ganga
Exciting news coming up by the mid of March, something we’ve been working towards since 2015. Keep a lookout for an emailer from us in the mid of March!
Moving Upstream: Luni fellowship
We are happy to report that all the fellows from our Moving Upstream: Luni fellowship (in partnership with the School of Public Policy, IIT Delhi, and Out of Eden Walk) have completed their walks along River Luni in Rajasthan.
They are in the process of compiling their notes and documentation, and we will be publishing their introductory articles on our website soon.
Here’s a short glimpse into what Avisha & Suraj saw on their walk.
We have been sharing glimpses from their walks on social media - follow here if you haven't yet - Instagram | Facebook | Twitter

The data sprint is focused on Rivers around Delhi and in the North India region. You don’t have to be an expert on rivers or sand mining, your enthusiasm to participate is sufficient. Registration is mandatory.
Register & see more details at this link - veditum.org/delhisprint
You can read about our previous sprint (focused on River Chambal) here and checkout some of the data visualisations here.
Summer Internship 2024
Last few days (till Sunday, 10th March) for students to send in their applications to intern with us this summer. Please share in your networks?
The detailed job description and application details can be found on this link: https://veditum.org/interns2024/
Sediment Stories
We started off the ‘Sediment Stories’ series, with the first conversation on 2nd March, in which Rahul Singh, an independent journalist spoke about his experiences and learning from reporting on sand mining in Bihar. Read his ground report here and checkout the recording of this conversation below.
If you work on sediments, or know someone who does, please write to us at sandwatch@veditum.org. We’d love to explore a conversation with you!
Chambal Data Sprint Visualisation
We created some visualisations of the sand mining data on River Chambal uploaded on India Sand Watch platform, during the Chambal Data Sprint hosted in January this year.
This shows some of the many possibilities of the use of data digitised on our platform. Please share your thoughts and questions with us at sandwatch@veditum.org.
